Research Artist | Designer| Islamic Art Enthusiast

I was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1996. I completed my Bachelor’s in Communication and Design from Habib University (2021) with a minor in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Later I completed a year-long diploma in Traditional Arts from the Princes School (London).  My work is primarily based on my research practices. Previously I have participated in the Pakistan Pavilion at Venice Biennale (2021) and Sheherazade: The Walled City Anthology (2018), Indigo Waves and Other Stories at Vasl Artists Association (2021) and Garmi (heat) at Cinema 73. Recently, I worked on the project called Be (Coming) Museum, curated by the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at Beaconhouse National University (BNU) and the Canadian Community Arts Initiative (CCAI) in collaboration with Lahore Museum. During my time as an artist at the Centre For Arts Based Methodologies and Well-being, I participated in their exhibition - Mai Karachi Cultural Mapping Project funded by ProHelvetia and SELMA Project funded by University College London and Aga Khan University.

My work engages with contemporary, experimental art practices, but it is rooted within research and traditional art practices. My practice is mainly based on primary and secondary research while allowing space to immerse in traditional art and craftsmanship practices. I have used both traditional mediums through my training as a fine artist and largely digital and print mediums because of my skills as a graphic designer and an illustrator.  Archiving has been an important tool for me to gather my research and shape the visual aspect. The mediums I have experimented with are painting, drawing, moving images, soundscapes, zines, graphic design, illustration, photography and digital collages., My work centres around concepts of spirituality, ethnicity, feminism and the city where it unfolds in the process of its creation - in the research, documentation, learning, and archiving.
