I collaborated with Anita Zehra (@fiercedork) on this project. The project will be an extension of my Exploring Karachi series. The reason for collaborating with Anita on this project was firstly because of our similar ideas on the topic of Karachi, and because we share another bond with each other as “wanderers of Karachi”. Anita will also be using this project as part of her thesis presentation. The project is aimed at reimagining Karachi as a space of liminality. A city that goes beyond its title of being loud. As opposed to the chaotic persona and fast pace, we intend to capture the in-between moments. These are quintessential to breathing in Karachi. Moments

like the view from a moving vehicle, the winds flirting against plants, the insects making their way on a branch, the sea ripples, and the sun shining from behind the window bar. It is meant to bring a sense of hope. It is acting as a marker in between of the chaotic turmoil that is Karachi. The footage we are working with is a collection our personal libraries as well as from our small group of friends, as we all share our love for wandering around Karachi and exploring its vernacular spaces. The “silence” that we are collecting are of two kinds. First silence is in a literal sense, that is catching Karachi when its devoid of noise and chaos. The second kind of silence we are capturing is a transcendental sort where one is taken out of their noisy surroundings (the body) to focus on that one moment in time where the existence of Karachi as a being (the spirit) is rooting them.
